Are Fake Eyelashes Sustainable?
No. Today, most lashes on the market are made of synthetic materials such as nylon or polyester.
The most common type of plastic used to make lashes is polybutylene terephthalate (PBT).
Some people call them PBT lashes or Korean PBT Lashes. PBT is a synthetic polymer that is not biodegradable.
It can take hundreds of years for PBT to break down in the environment.
These materials are not sustainable or degradable, While they are much more affordable and easier to apply than animal fur.
When it does break down, it releases toxic chemicals into the air, water, and soil. That’s why we launched sustainable lashes.
What Are Biodegradable Lashes or Sustainable Lashes?
In 2020, we set out to find a more sustainable alternative to traditional synthetic lashes.
After months of research and development, we are proud to launch Sustainable Lashes.
Our Sustainable Lashes is made from PBS and PLA. They are completely biodegradable. Unlike other false eyelashes on the market, Sustainable Lashes will not pollute the environment or harm wildlife.
This sustainable fiber can also be used for makeup brushes and wigs.
- PBS
Polybutylene succinate (PBS) is a biodegradable plastic that decomposes into water and carbon dioxide with the microorganism under the soil.
PBS has a high heat resistance among the general biodegradablility resin, and PBS has high compatibility with fiber.
Using this goodness, it’s possible to achieve the performance which can’t be shown by itself as the compound with other resin and material.
- PLA
Polylactic acid, also known as PLA, is a thermoplastic monomer derived from renewable, organic sources such as corn starch or sugar cane.
Using biomass resources makes PLA production different from most plastics, which are produced using fossil fuels through the distillation and polymerization of petroleum.
Despite the raw material differences, PLA can be produced using the same equipment as petrochemical plastics, making PLA manufacturing processes relatively cost-efficient.
PLA is the second most produced bioplastic (after thermoplastic starch) and has similar characteristics to polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), or polystyrene (PS), as well as being biodegradable.
